[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 5월 5일, 어린이날을 맞이하여 김원기 더불어민주당 의정부시장 후보는 아동의  ‘놀 권리’에 관한 공약을 발표했다고 전했다. 

김원기 후보는 아동이 자신의 삶 속에서 소외되지 않고 주인공으로서 성장할 수 있는 환경이 마련될 수 있도록 꾸준히 관심을 가져야 한다고 밝혔다. 

김원기 후보가 지난 5월 5일 어린이날과 관련한 발표공약은 '장난감 도서관 건립', '신나게 학교 가는 길 : 셉테드(CPTED: 범죄예방설계) 적용 안전한 등·하교 보장', '어린이 상시 코딩 교육 체계 확립', '권역별 '신나게 놀자' 센터 운영', '어린이 도서관 프로그램 확대' 등 이라고 했다.   

김원기 후보는 어린이가 자유롭게 놀면서 성장할 수 있는 세상을 바라는 마음에, 지난 2018년 경기도의회 부의장 시절부터 많은 관심을 가졌었고, 김원기 후보의 이런 관심은 아이들의 건강성을 회복하기 위해 놀게 하는 문화를 어떻게 형성할 것인가를 고민하던 중 조례라는 장치로 귀결되었다고 전했다.  

김원기 후보는 지난 2018년 경기도인재개발원 다산홀에서 열린 ‘아동의 놀 권리 증진을 위한 놀이 정책의 방향과 지역사회의 역할 모색 정책토론회’에서 “아이들이 바라는 세상은 놀고 싶을 때 놀고 쉬고 싶을 때 쉴 수 있는 세상, 밤늦게 까지 공부하지 않고 가족과 함께 저녁을 먹을 수 있는 세상 ”이라고 말한 바 있다고 했다. 

김원기 후보는 행정학 박사 출신 3선 도의원으로서 경기도의회 부의장을 역임한 바 있으며, 대통령 소속 자치분과위원회 정책자문위원, 초대 의정부시 평생교육비전 센터장으로도 활동했다고 밝혔다.
