[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 평창군은 산양삼 고품질화 및 고부가가치 창출을 목적으로 추진한 산양삼 융복합지원센터 조성 공모사업에 선정되어 사업비 98억원을 확보했다고 밝혔다.

이번 공모사업은 산림청 주관으로 강원권내 산양삼 주산지 5개시·군을 대상으로 서류심사, 현장심사, 발표심사 등 외부 전문가들의 심의를 거쳐 평창군이 최종 선정되었고, 산양삼 융복합 지원센터는 산양삼 관련 연구 및 귀산촌 교육·체험 등을 지원할 수 있는 기반을 마련하여 산양삼의 고품질화·산업화와 귀산촌 인구 유입을 증대할 목적으로 조성하게 되며, 2022년 사업을 시작하여 오는 2024년 준공할 계획이라고 전했다. 

총사업비는 98억 원이 투입되며, 산양삼 전시판매장, 교육·홍보관, 경매장, 수출 지원관, 연구시설, 귀산촌 교육·정보 제공시설 등이 설치될 예정이라고 했다.

평창군은 지난 2015년에 전국 최초로 산양삼 특구로 지정된 이후, 전국 최초 산양삼 지리적 표시제 등록, 가공유통센터 조성, 재배면적 확대, 생산기반 시설 조성 지원 등 다양한 분야에서 노력을 기울여 왔으며, 산양삼에 대한 지역 주민들과 귀산촌인의 관심도 높아 생산량이 해마다 증가하고, 고품질의 산양삼을 생산하기 위해 평창군과 재배농가에서 함께 노력을 기울이고 있다고 했다.

산양삼 융복합 지원센터가 완공되면 평창군 산양삼의 우수성을 널리 홍보하고 귀산촌에 대한 체계적인 교육 지원, 상품화 개발 및 연구, 수출시장 확대를 위한 지원과 전국 최대 규모의 경매장을 운영할 계획이라고 전했다.

이성모 산림과장은 “산양삼을 재배할 수 있는 최고의 자연환경과 그동안 평창군에서 산양삼을 특화하기 위해 노력해온 행정력, 지역주민들의 축적된 재배경험, 서울대학교 그린바이오캠퍼스의 연구인력 등 평창군이 가지고 있는 여러 가지 자원들을 토대로 평창이 명실상부한 산양삼의 메카가 될 수 있도록 내실 있게 사업을 추진해 나가겠다.”고 밝혔다.
