[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 23일 동해시는 송정일반산업단지 내 3블럭(송정동 1702)에 대한 매매 계약을 동해시청(통상상담실)에서 진행했다고 밝혔다.

3개 블럭으로 구성돼 있는 송정일반산업단지는 지난 2008년에 지정·고시돼 2010년 준공 인가를 받았으며, 시는 3블럭(51,778.6㎡) 매각을 위해 올 1월 입주 희망업체(전기장비 제조업 또는 기타 기계 및 장비 제조업)을 대상으로 공고 및 접수 신청을 진행했다고 했다.

접수 결과 송정일반산업단지 1·2블럭을 2010년 강원도개발공사로부터 매입해 해저케이블을 생산하고 있는 LS전선(주)이 해당 필지 매입자로 선정됐으며, LS전선(주)은 이번 매매계약을 위해 본사 재경 구매본부장 이상호 전무가 동해시를 방문했다고 했다.

LS전선(주) 동해공장은 2008년 이후 3,400억원 투자, 500여명 이상의 인력 고용으로 동해시 지역 경기를 활성화하고 있는 국내 유일의 초고압 해저 케이블 생산업체로, 아시아 최대 해저케이블 생산 규모를 갖추고 있다고 전했다.

현재 유럽과 중동, 아시아 국가들이 해상풍력단지 건설을 늘리면서 해저 케이블 수요 증가가 예상되는 등 전 세계 수요가 2030년까지 5배 이상 성장할 것으로 전망됨에 따라, LS전선(주)의 이번 공장부지 추가 매입은 이러한 시장 성장에 대응하기 위한 선제적인 조치로 보인다고 했다.

추가 구입한 3블럭에는 해저 5동 생산시설과 케이블 보관시설, 해저지원공장, 물류창고 및 연구 지원동 등 2025년까지 약 800억원 규모의 투자가 진행될 예정이라고 했다.

또, 직접 투자 외 LS전선 동해공장의 확장 및 생산량 증가에 따른 관내 유관기업의 동반 성장도 예상돼 청년 고용 확대, 지역경제 활성화, 지방세 증대에도 크게 기여할 것으로 기대된다고 했다.

이 외에도, LS전선(주)은 동해시의 야간 조명 개선을 위해 2블럭 4단계의 VCV 타워 조명과 3블럭 5단계 구간에는 기존 조명과 연계된 조명 장치 설치를 계획하고 있다고 전했다.

심규언 동해시장은 “LS전선이 세계적인 글로벌기업으로 도약함과 동시에 동해시가 세계적인 해저케이블을 생산하는 중심도시로 상생 발전할 수 있도록 적극 지원 협력해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, LS전선(주)는 지난해 8월 4단계 증축 투자협약 이후 신규 채용한 22명에 대한 정규직 전환을 마쳤으며 그간 동해시민장학금(5억)·지역문화진흥기금(5억)·문화관광기금(10억)·불우이웃돕기 및 기타 후원금(10억) 기탁 등 사회적 약자를 위한 다양한 지원에 앞장서고 있다고 전했다.
