「백두대간 보호에 관한 법률」의 개정에 따라 올해 처음 구성된 백두대간 정책 지역협의체는 관계 행정기관 소속 공무원과 백두대간 관련 학계 및 환경단체 전문가로 구성됐으며(총 15명), 북부지방청 관할지역(인제, 홍천) 백두대간 내 사업추진에 따른 이해관계의 조정과 의견수렴 등 원활한 백두대간 보호·관리를 위해 운영될 예정이라고 했다.

이날 정기회의에서는 위원들의 위촉식을 포함하여 지역 백두대간보호지역 현황과 개발행위 사전협의 내용, 백두대간 보호·관리 정책을 공유하였으며, 추후 지역협의체의 운영방안에 대해 논의했다고 했다.

최수천 북부지방산림청장은 “백두대간 정책 지엽협의체의 활발한 운영을 통해 다양한 구성원의 의견을 반영하여 보다 심층적 백두대간 보호·관리를 위해 노력하겠다.”라고 밝혔다.
