[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 8일 북부지방산림청은 ㈜삼천리와 산림 탄소중립의 숲 경영관리를 위한 공동산림사업 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이번 공동산림사업은 ㈜삼천리에서 산림청 소관 재산인 인천광역시 연수구에 위치한 청량산 약 4ha 면적에 2021년부터 2026년까지 50백만 원을 자발적으로 투입하여 지역사회와 연계한 숲가꾸기 및 4개의 테마로 구성된 테마숲 조성으로 지속가능한 산림의 건강을 유지하고 국민들에게 산림을 활용한 휴식공간을 제공하여 도시민의 행복지수 증진을 도모하기 위한 사업이라고 했다.

공동산림사업을 통해 추진하는 산림 탄소중립의 숲 경영관리 사업은 풀베기, 덩굴제거 등의 무육작업을 지속적으로 실시하는 등 청량산의 특징을 활용한 숲가꾸기 사업을 통해 산림 탄소중립의 숲을 조성하여 관리하고, 청량산 일대 기존 등산로를 활용하여 노후시설을 정비하고 다양한 볼거리를 제공할 계획이라고 했다.

특히 다양한 열매를 보고 체험할 수 있는 열매숲, 기존 전나무가 식재되어 있는 곳을 관리하여 사업을 홍보하기 위한 전나무 미래숲, 유아숲체험원과 연계하여 유아들의 산림을 체험할 수 있는 체험숲과 가을숲으로 테마를 구성함으로써 민간 기업의 자발적인 실천으로 ESG 경영 가치를 확보하고, 지친 생활 속 국민들에게 도심 속에서도 산림의 공익적 기능을 체험할 수 있도록 하여 삶에 활력을 불어넣어준다고 했다. 

이번 사업을 통해 청량산 내 나무가 자랄 수 있는 좋은 환경을 조성하여 이산화탄소 흡수능력을 향상시켜 탄소중립의 목적에 한 발짝 다가갈 수 있는 계기가 될 것이며, 국민 산림휴양공간을 조성하여 숲을 찾는 도시민들에게 심신을 안정하고 정서를 순화하여 쾌적한 환경을 일상 속에 스며들게 하는 등 경제적, 사회적, 환경적 외 다양한 방면으로 다기능 고부가가치를 창출할 것으로 기대된다고 했다.

북부지방산림청은 이밖에도 화성시와 공동산림사업 협약을 체결하여 미세먼지 차단 도시숲 조성사업을 추진했으며, 그 외 신혼부부 나무심기, 제76회 식목일 기념 나무심기, 문화인과 나무심기, 한국기자협회 나무심기, 평화의 숲 나무심기 등 여러 단체와 탄소중립을 위한 기관협력 사업을 추진하여 범국민적 탄소중립 문화 확산에 기여해왔다고 전했다.

한편, 지난 12월 6일부터 오는 10일까지는 ‘2050 탄소중립 비전 선언(20.12.10.)’ 1주년을 맞이하여 탄소중립 생활을 실천하기 위해 우선 기업이 직접 기금을 투자하여 국유림에 나무를 심는 협력 사업 대상지를 확보할 예정이라고 했다.
