지난 1일 동두천시 전진석 부시장은 소요산 관광지 현장을 방문해 관광객들에게 이용불편을 주는 시설물과 관광지 내 안전사고 우려가 있는 공사 현장을 점검했다고 했다. 

시는 이를 토대로 관광지 내 관광홍보판 노후화, 일부 구간 도로 포장상태 불량, 침체된 상권 등 관광 활성화를 위한 보완점을 도출해 내년 사업계획에 반영하고, 도에 ‘관광객 대상 시정 홍보용 전광판 설치’, ‘찾아오는 소요산 관광지 만들기를 위한 경관 신설’, ‘다국어 관광안내지도·홍보물 제작’그리고 ‘소요산 관광지 상가 경제 활성화를 위한 도로 정비’등에 지원을 요청했다고 했다. 

시 관계자는 “소요산 관광지는 숲과 계곡이 수려해 ‘경기 소금강’으로 널리 알려진 곳으로 작년 7월에 야영시설인 ‘소요별&숲 테마파크’시설에 목공체험시설인 상상공작소와 산림 휴양시설인 산림욕장이 함께 개장해 가족, 유치원, 학교 등의 단위로 방문객들이 늘고 있다”면서 “소요산 관광지를 찾는 관광객들에게는 자연 속에서 몸과 마음의 휴식을 얻어 건강을 챙길 수 있도록 하고, 관광지 주변 상가 및 우리 지역에는 경제 활성화에 기여토록 내년도 관광개발사업에 모든 행정력을 집중하겠다”고 전했다.
