[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동두천시는 소요산을 중심으로 쉼터조성을 위한 전망데크 설치, 이용객의 정확한 길 안내 및 안전사고 예방을 위한 이정표 정비를 추진한다고 밝혔다.

시에 따르면, 소요산 정상에 있는 봉우리인 의상대를 대상으로 표면이 고르지 못하고 협소하며 나무에 시야가 가리는 단점을 보완하기 위해 기존 표지석 위치만큼 바닥면을 높이고 성능인증을 받은 자재로 전망데크를 조성하였고, 전망데크가 설치되는 의상대 해발 587m에서는 동두천 시내를 한눈에 내려다 볼 수 있으며, 바위 틈에 자생하고 있는 수령이 오래된 참나무, 소나무가 조화를 이루며 인접 시·군 주요 봉우리 전경까지 광범위한 조망이 가능하다고 했다.  

공사자재는 헬기로 운반하는 등 훼손을 최소화하였으며, 설치시설인 전망데크 및 이정표 등은 내구성은 물론 주변경관과 어울리도록 소재 및 색상을 선택하여 시공하였다고 말했다.

시 관계자는  “우리시 소중한 산림자원인 소요산을 중심으로 경기명산27 쉼터조성 및 등산로 이정표 정비 등 경기도 도비보조사업 지원을 받아 추진중”이라며, “본 공사의 취지인 산림의 쾌적한 이용과 보전을 위해 취사 및 쓰레기를 버리는 행위를 근절하여 산림보호 활동에 적극 동참하여 주길 바란다”고 말했다.
