문예숲이 있는 마을은 2015년 여성가족부 공모사업에 선정되어 현재까지 문예숲 커뮤니티센터를 거점으로 흥선동 일원 마을운영위원회를 운영 중에 있으며, 문예숲 마을 공동체 언니네 수선방은 작년 12월 언니네협동조합을 설립하여 인구유입이 정체된 흥선동 일원의 마을을 여성친화형 도시재생 뉴딜사업과 연계하여 주민이 주도적으로 마을을 운영 중이라고 말했고, 또한, 흥선동 노인복지관과 함께 3세대가 함께하는 돌봄 사업인 온브릿지 사업을 3월부터 추진 중에 있다고 했다.

류윤미 여성가족과장은 “여성친화도시 의정부가 대표적인 여성친화마을 문예숲에 주민들이 조성한 꽃을 보면서 백일홍의 아름다움과 생명력의 기운을 받아, 문학(文)과 예술(藝)과 함께 숲을 이룸으로써 어려운 코로나19 상황을 반드시 이겨낼 수 있길 바란다.”라고 밝혔다.
