[서종협 기자 = 태백시] 태백시(시장 이상호)는 지난 22일 1989년 정부의 탄광지역 진흥대책 일환으로 지역 활성화를 위해 국비(약 23억원)와 지방비(약 19억원)를 투입하여 태백산도립공원내 조성한 태백산 민박촌을 환경부(국립공원공단)에 매각 했다고 밝혔다.

태백산도립공원이 국립공원으로 승격한 2016년 당시 환경부는 태백산 민박촌을 매입 및 활용하기로 태백시와 협약을 맺었고, 이 협약에 따라 태백시는 태백산 민박촌을 감정평가액 46억 8천 5백만원으로 환경부에 매각했다. 

그동안 정부는 국비가 투입되어 조성한 시설을 다시 국비로 매입하는 것에 부정적 입장이었으나, 환경부 및 각계각층의 지속적인 노력과 협조로 예산 편성 및 매각이 추진 되었다.

이상호 태백시장은 “태백산 민박촌이 지금이라도 매각될 수 있도록 많은 관심을 가져 주시고 적극 지원해 주신 이철규 국회의원께 감사드린다”며 “태백산 민박촌 매각은 민선 8기, 시정 현안 문제 해결의 신호탄이 될 것이다”라고 말했다.
