[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 의정부시는 자원회수시설(소각장) 시설물의 안정적인 운영과 발생할 수 있는 사고 요소를 사전에 방지하기 위해 오는 24일부터 10월 25일까지 22일간 가동을 일시 중단하고 하반기 정기보수를 실시할 예정이라고 밝혔다.

자원회수시설은 첫 가동 이후 20년이 넘는 기간 동안 운영 중에 있으나, 그간 철저한 시설물 관리와 연 2회 시행하는 상·하반기 정기보수를 통해 시민들의 불편함 없이 안정적으로 운영하고 있다.

이번 정기보수는 노후화된 시설물의 교체와 수리 등 발생 가능한 시설물들의 사고를 사전에 예방하고 생활폐기물의 정상적인 처리 및 주변 환경오염을 방지하기 위해 시행하는 것으로 주요 정비보수 내용은 소각로 정비, 노후배관 교체, 이송 컨베이어 교체 등을 진행한다.

정기보수 기간 동안 발생하는 생활폐기물은 정상적으로 반입될 예정이며 수도권매립지 매립 등을 통해 분산 처리할 예정이지만, 2020년부터 시행 중인 수도권매립지 반입총량제 등에 따라 총량 초과 시 반입 수수료의 초과 부과 및 반입 정지 등 불이익이 발생할 수 있어 시민들의 쓰레기 감량에 협조가 필요하다고 밝혔다.

전정일 자원순환과장은 “하반기 정기보수를 통해 더욱 안정적인 자원회수시설 운영에 만전을 기하겠다”며 “정기보수 기간 동안 소각로의 가동이 일시 중지되는 만큼 시민 여러분들의 철저한 재활용품 분리 수거와 쓰레기 줄이기에 적극적으로 협조해주시기를 부탁드린다”고 밝혔다.
