[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 15일 포천시는 포천노인복지관에서 제42회 장애인의날 기념행사를 대신해 모범장애인과 장애인복지 유공자에 대한 표창 수여식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

기념식은 박윤국 포천시장, 손세화 포천시의회 의장 등이 참석해 장애의 역경을 극복한 모범장애인과 장애인 인권증진과 권익 향상을 위해 노력해온 장애인복지 유공자 42명(시장 25명, 의장 10명, 국회의원 7명)에게 표창을 수여했다고 전했다.

이날 기념식에서는 수상자들의 사전 인터뷰 영상을 통해 ‘장애는 하나의 개성이며, 다름이 인정되는 편견없는 사회로 나아가야 한다’는 메시지를 전했다.

박윤국 포천시장은 “코로나19로 인해 장애인의 날 기념행사를 열지 못해 무척 아쉽게 생각한다. 힘든 상황에서도 장애인의 권리 증진을 위해 애쓰시는 장애인분들과 장애인복지 유공자 분들께 진심으로 감사드린다.”면서 “지역 맞춤형 장애인복지 종합계획 수립을 통해 장애인과 비장애인이 모두 행복한 포천시를 만들어 가겠다.”고 말했다. 

한편, 매년 4월 20일은 장애인에 대한 이해를 높이고 재활의욕을 높이고자 국가에서 지정한 ‘장애인의 날’로, 1981년부터 시작해 올해로 42회째를 맞이했다고 했다.
