[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 원주시가 어린이 보호구역 내 쾌적하고 안전한 통학로를 조성하기 위해 ‘자녀안심 그린숲 사업’을 추진한다고 밝혔다.

자녀안심 그린숲 사업은 기존 가로수 보완 식재 및 생육환경 개선과 함께 학교 앞 도로 인근 유휴 공간에 그늘을 만들어주는 신규 가로수와 꽃이 피는 관목류 등을 심어 복층형 가로 환경을 조성하는 사업이라고 했다.

이를 통해 어린이들의 학교 앞 무단횡단 방지 등 통학로 안전은 물론, 경관 향상을 통한 심리적 안정 효과 등 가로수의 공익적 기능 제고와 쾌적한 도시환경을 조성하게 된다고 했다.

원주시는 올해 산림청 예산 포함 4억 원을 투입해 6월까지 반곡초등학교와 봉대초등학교 주변에 자녀안심 그린숲을 조성할 계획이라고 전했다.

한편 지난해 만대초등학교와 학성초등학교 일원에 조성된 그린숲은 학교와 지역 주민들로부터 좋은 반응을 얻은 바 있다고 전했다.

박원호 공원녹지과장은 “공사에 따른 불편을 최소화할 수 있도록 노력하겠다.”라며, “학생들의 안전을 위한 사업인 만큼 시민들의 양해와 협조를 당부드린다.”라고 말했다.
