주요 설문조사 결과로 50.8%는 개식용문화 반대, 39.6%는 개고기 판매 점포 이미지를 부정적으로 응답, 70%는 개 도축 방법 규제에 동의하며 63.3%는 개식용 산업의 전·폐업을 위한 정부 지자체 개입이 필요한 것으로 응답했다고 했다. 

강릉시는 개 식용에 대한 인식 설문조사를 조사·분석함으로써 향후 정책방향을 설정하기 위한 기초 자료로 활용할 계획이라고 전했다.

한편 강릉시는 최근 사회적으로 문제가 되고 있는 불법 개 사육농장과 관련하여 개 사육과 관련한 위법 행위에 대해 지난 1월 강원도 내 최초로 강력 대응에 나선 바 있다고 전했다.
