[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 원주시는 환경사업소 생활자원 회수센터(재활용선별장) 증설공사를 마치고 3월 중 정상 운영에 들어간다고 밝혔다.

지난 2014년 지상 2층, 총면적 2,395㎡ 규모로 건립된 생활자원 회수센터는 2020년까지 1일 처리용량(35t)에서 평균 5t이 초과해 재활용폐기물 선별에 한계를 겪고 있었다고 했다.

이에 원주시는 사업비 18억 5천만 원을 투입해 지난해 9월부터 처리용량 개선을 위한 증설 사업을 추진했다고 전했다.

이번 사업으로 1일 평균 50t의 재활용폐기물을 처리할 수 있을 것으로 예상돼 시민들에게 쾌적한 생활환경을 제공함은 물론 자원순환 활성화에도 크게 이바지할 것으로 기대된다고 했다.

원주시 관계자는 “생활자원 회수센터 증설과 더불어 올해 투명페트병 선별시설을 별도 조성할 예정이다.”라며, “재활용폐기물의 자원순환 활성화를 위해 최선을 다하겠다.”라고 말했다.
