[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강릉시는 지능형교통체계(ITS) 기반사업을 실시하여 향후 자율주행, 스마트시티 등 첨단기술 도입에 기반이 될 자가통신 인프라를 강릉시 전역에 구축하고 있다고 밝혔다.

지능형교통체계(ITS) 기반사업은 급증하는 통신회선 임대료를 획기적으로 절감하고 신규 발생하는 통신 수요에 능동적으로 대처하기 위해 추진됐으며, 그동안 통신사업자로부터 임대해 사용하던 정보통신망을 강릉시 자체적으로 도내 최대규모인 주요간선 110km에 걸쳐 광케이블을 확보함으로써 교통시설물 운영에 안정적인 서비스를 제공할 예정이라고 했다.

향후 시청사와 주민센터에 대한 행정통신망은 물론 방범용‧주정차단속 CCTV, 버스정보시스템, 미래 자율주행 서비스 등에도 자가통신망을 활용한 통신서비스를 확대할 수 있는 기반을 마련할 수 있게 됐다고 했다.

강릉시는 2023년 이후 올림픽파크 내‘2026 ITS세계총회’시찰·시연 서비스와 연계하여 자가통신망의 허브 역할을 하는 미래교통복합센터 구축을 추진 중이라고 전했다.

센터는 자가통신망 허브 역할 및 빅데이터 플랫폼을 활용한 데이터 연계, 통합으로 영동지방의 빅데이터 거점도시로서 역할을 담당할 것으로 기대된다고 했다.

강릉시 관계자는“통신망 구축으로 인해 도심 내 30km를 굴착하는 공사가 시행되어 시민분들의 통행 불편이 우려되나 스마트시티 강릉 구축을 위한 공사로 시민 여러분들의 많은 양해 부탁드리며, 지속적인 자가통신망 확대·구축으로 스마트도시 서비스 제공에 최선의 노력을 기울이겠다”고 말했다.
