강릉시는 편리한 대중교통 이용환경 조성으로 소상공인 지역 상권을 활성화하고자 스마트시티 챌린지 사업의 일환으로 운영 중인 스마트 모빌리티 대여서비스‘휙파인패스’를‘강릉패스’로 리뉴얼하면서 신형 공유킥보드를 선보이게 됐다고 했다.

신형킥보드에는 코로나 시대에 맞춰 UV살균 기능과 헬멧 대여 기능이 합쳐진‘스마트헬멧락커’를 추가하여 보다 안전한 스마트모빌리티 이용이 가능하도록 구현했다고 했다. 

앞으로도 강릉시는 다양한 스마트모빌리티들을 강릉패스에 추가하여 각종 모빌리티를 저렴하게 이용할 수 있도록 할 예정이며, 새로워진 강릉패스 서비스는 구글플레이와 앱스토어를 통해 다운로드하여 앱 이용이 가능하고, 공유 킥보드 이용에는 운전면허 등록이 필요하다고 했다. 

한편, 스마트시티 챌린지 사업은 비효율적인 도시문제에 대해 스마트 기술을 접목, 해결해가는 한국판 뉴딜사업의 일환으로, 강릉은 통합MaaS(Mobility as a Service)플랫폼 구축, 소상공인매장 디지털화, 도시데이터 허브플랫폼 구축의 내용으로 2022년까지 국비 100억 포함 총 200억 원 상당의 규모로 추진하고 있다고 전했다.
