[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 20일 포천시의회는 6군단 정문에서 6군단 부지의 반환을 촉구하는 시위를 벌였다고 밝혔다. 

이날 시위는 6군단이 2020년 국방 중기계획에 따라 해체되어 1954년 6·25전쟁 휴전 직후부터 사용 중인 8만 평의 부지 반환을 촉구하기 위해 추진됐다고 했다.

시의회는 이에 앞선 지난 16일 제161회 제2차 정례회 제2차 본회의를 통해 ‘6군단 부지 반환 촉구 결의안’을 채택하고, 청와대와 국회 국방위원회, 국방부, 행정안전부 등에 결의안을 전달했다고 했다.

의장 직무대리 송상국 부의장은 “지난 70여 년간 국가안보를 위해 희생해온 우리 포천시가 이제는 6군단이 해체함으로써 그동안 무상임대했던 포천시 소유의 토지를 반환받는 것은 당연하다고 생각한다”며 “이 부지가 앞으로 포천시 발전에 큰 구심점이 될 것”이라고 말했다.

이어, ‘6군단 부지 반환 촉구 결의안’을 대표 발의한 연제창 의원은 “앞으로 6군단 부지가 반환될 수 있도록 모든 것을 걸고 집회를 이어나가겠다”며 “우리 시의 호의를 권리라 착각하는 군에게 이제 더 이상 무조건적인 협조는 없다”고 잘라 말했다.

한편, 포천시의회는 ‘6군단 부지 반환’ 약속을 받을 때까지 6군단 정문 앞 시위를 계속 이어나갈 계획이라고 전했다.
