가평군 민속5일장은 평일 최대 3천여명, 휴일엔 8천여명이 찾는 5일장으로 코로나19가 처음 확산된 지난 2020년 2월에 1차 휴장을 시작으로 지난해에만 총130일간 휴장을 하였고 4단계로 격상됨에 따라 지난 7월부터 계속하여 휴장을 해왔고, 추석 명절을 맞아 지난 9월1일 부터 9월20일까지 한시적으로 운영한 것을 제외하고 코로나 19 확산 예방을 위해 시장상인들도 힘겹게 민속 5일장 미운영에 동참해오고 있었다고 했다.

지속적으로 관내 코로나 확진자 수 감소를 위해 지역 상인, 주민, 방역당국 등 최선을 다하고 있지만 다시 2주간 현행 거리단계가 연장됨에 따라 지역 상권이 고사위기에 있다고 판단하여 민속 5일 시장을 재개장 운영하기로 결정하였으며, 다만, 5일장 상인회는 철저한 방역과 QR코드를 통한 방문객 확인 등 방역 수칙을 철저히 하고 방역수칙 위반이 있는 노점의 경우 철수토록 하는 등 코로나19 방역에 만전을 기해 운영할 예정이라고 했다. 

군 관계자는 “시장상인회 뿐 아니라 이용객들도 불편하시겠지만 코로나19 방역조치에 적극 동참 부탁드린다. 이번 조치가 위드코로나로 가는 첫 발이 되어 지역경제에 조금이나마 도움이 되기를 바란다.”고 밝혔다.
