이날 심사위원회에서는 총 5개 부문에서 수상자를 확정했는데 애향봉사장에 손복자 씨(64세 여), 향토발전장에 김석훈 씨(57세 남), 효행선행장에 김시형 씨(70세 남), 문화예술장에 김정희 씨(64세 여), 체육진흥장에 김기수 씨(56세 남)가 각각 선정됐다고 했다.

 

『시민의 장』은 동두천시의 명예를 높이고 지역사회 발전에 크게 공헌한 시민에게 긍지와 영예를 부여하기 위해 1989년에 처음 제정되어 지난해까지 총 32회에 걸쳐 153명의「시민의 장」 수상자를 배출했다고 했다.

 

올해는 5개부문 22명의 후보자가 열띤 경합을 벌였는데, 예년과 달리 부문별로 다수의 후보자가 신청되어 심사하는 데 많은 어려움이 있었다고 위원들은 입을 모았다고 전했다.

 

애향봉사장에 선정된 손복자 씨는 1991년부터 사회단체활동을 시작하여 지금까지 30여년 간 끊임없이 봉사최일선에서 활동했으며, 특히, 2006년부터 현재까지 장애인 후원을 위한 ‘이슬처럼 봉사회’ 회장직을 맡고 2012년부터는 장애인단체 총연합회 부회장직을 맡아 사회적으로 고립된 장애인들이 용기와 희망을 가지고 사회로 나와 자립하는 데 크게 기여했다는 평가를 받고 있다고 했다.

 

향토발전장에 선정된 김석훈 씨는 생연2동 2003년 새마을지도자로 위촉된 이후 각종 사회단체 및 위원회의 위원을 두루 역임하며 동두천시의 환경, 보건, 치안, 교통, 교육 등 다양한 분야에서 그 역량을 발휘하여 시 발전에 크게 기여하였다. 야간 자율방범 활동, 환경정화 활동, 방역활동 지원, 사랑의 집수리 등 봉사활동에 적극적으로 임했고 2015년 이후부터는 각종 기부활동도 병행하여 선한 영향력을 전파하는 데 일조했다고 했다.

 

효행선행장에 선정된 김시형씨는 1995년부터 어려운 환경속에서도 홀로 양친을 부양했고 특히 2004년 부친이 사망한 이후 17년이라는 긴 세월동안 각종 투병으로 거동조차 불편한 모친을 지극정성으로 봉양하며 진정한 효의 의미를 몸소 보여주었고 1992년부터 꾸준히 방범활동에도 참여하여 안전한 동네만들기에 기여했다고 했다.

 

문화예술장에 선정된 김정희 씨는 2014년 동두천시 시 낭송대회 대상을 시작으로 2016년 천상병 시 낭송대회 대상, 2017년 전국 시낭송대회 동상 등 각종 대회를 입상한 탄탄한 실력을 바탕으로 제1회 전국장애인 행복나눔 시낭송 경연대회에서 두드림 장애인학생들이 금상을 탈 수 있도록 열정적인 지도능력을 보여주었을 뿐만 아니라 타 시와의 문화교류 시 각종공연을 통해 시 문화예술 홍보에도 적극적으로 임했다고 했다.

체육진흥장에 선정된 김기수 씨는 2000년에 동두천시 볼링협회에 가입하여 볼링의 불모지로 불리던 동두천시에 볼링 활성화를 위해 경주했으며 특히 산재해 있던 볼링종목 동호인간의 협력체계를 구축하여 시 볼링이 발전할 수 있는 기반을 마련하는 선구적인 역할을 했다고 전했다. 

 

볼링의 활성화를 위하여 다양한 체육대회 개최, 프로그램 개발 및 지원 등 볼링 후학양성에도 전향적으로 임하는 등 볼링을 통한 생활체육 활성화에 기여했다는 평가를 받고 있다고 했다.

 

이날 수상자로 확정된 제33회 시민의 장 수상자들은 오는 10월 6일 시민의 날 행사 기념식에서 시민의 장 메달과 증서를 받게 될 예정이라고 전했다.
