[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강릉시는 본격적인 여름 휴가철을 맞아 자원순환사회로의 전환을 위해 오는 17일부터 19일까지 ‘투명페트병 별도배출’ 집중 홍보 기간을 운영한다고 밝혔다.

이번 집중 홍보 기간은 페트병이 집중적으로 소비되는 하계 휴가철을 맞아 투명페트병 별도배출에 대한 시민 인식을 개선하고 참여를 활성화하는 차원에서 시행하는 것으로, 강릉시, 강릉자원순환운동본부, (사)자원순환사회연대 등이 참여한다.

투명페트병 별도배출은 무색의 투명한 생수‧음료 페트병만 해당하며, 내용물을 깨끗이 비우고 라벨을 제거한 후 압착하여 뚜껑을 닫아 일반 플라스틱과는 별도로 배출하는 것으로, 고품질 재생원료로 가공하여 의류, 신발, 가방 등 가치가 높은 재활용 제품으로 생산이 가능하다.

시민과 관광객이 많이 방문하는 경포해수욕장 중앙광장, 솔향수목원에서 3일간 투명페트병을 종량제봉투로 교환해주는 캠페인을 진행하며 일반 플라스틱 등과 섞이지 않도록 혼합 배출 행위 등에 대한 집중 홍보활동을 펼칠 예정이다.

또한, 단독주택 및 상가 등에 투명페트병 배출 요일제(화요일)를 홍보하고 모니터링을 통한 현장계도를 병행할 계획이다.

강릉시 관계자는 “생수‧음료 투명페트병의 이물질 함량이 낮을수록 고품질의 제품으로 활용이 가능하므로 시민들의 참여가 필수적이다”라며, “올해 여름 휴가철은 순환경제 활성화를 위해 전 국민들이 조금 불편하더라도 재활용 가능자원을 올바르게 분리배출하여 깨끗하고 즐거운 휴가가 되기를 기대한다”고 말했다.
