[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 오는 4월 23일 토요일 오전 11시 (사)운곡학회에서는 원주시 행구동 소재 창의사에서 원주시민과 유림, 후손 등 100여 명이 참석한 가운데 운곡 원천석 선생을 기리는 제17회 운곡제를 봉행한다고 밝혔다.

초헌관에는 김명중 강원도 경제부지사, 아헌관에는 조종용 원주시장 권한대행, 종헌관에는 김효열 원주향교 전교를 제관으로 봉행할 예정이며, 운곡 원천석 선생은 원주를 대표하는 인물로, 고려 말 정치가 문란해지자 치악산에 은거해 절개와 의리를 지켰으며, 인품과 학문이 뛰어나 후대의 칭송을 받고 있고 시는 지난 2006년 운곡 원천석 선생을 배향하는 사당인 창의사를 건립하고 향토문화유산으로 지정해 관리하고 있으며, 사단법인 운곡학회에서는 매년 운곡 선생을 선양하는 운곡제, 학술대회, 백일장, 휘호대회, 서예·문인화대전 등 사업을 수행하고 있다고 전했다.

박명옥 문화예술과장은 “운곡 원천석 선생은 원주를 대표하는 위인인 만큼 운곡제를 포함한 선양사업을 더 활성화할 수 있도록 노력하겠다.”라고 말했다.
