[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 지난 27일 포천시와 강남중앙침례교회는 외국인근로자 건강검진 지원을 위한 후원협약을 맺었다고 밝혔다.

협약식에는 박윤국 포천시장을 비롯해 강남중앙침례교회 최병락 담임목사, 인천세종병원 민길현 실장 등 10여 명이 참석했다고 전했다.

이날 협약식은 언어소통의 어려움과 경제적 부담, 생업종사 등의 이유로 의료서비스 사각지대에 놓이기 쉬운 외국인 근로자들에게 검진비용을 지원하고자 마련됐으며, 협약에 따라 포천시는 의료복지 사각지대에 놓인 외국인근로자를 선정하고, 강남중앙침례교회는 협력병원인 인천세종병원과 함께 1인당 40만 원(총 1억 4400만원) 상당의 건강검진서비스를 12개월 동안 360명에게 지원할 예정이라고 했다.

최병락 목사는 “외국인은 우리와 같은 사람이자 이웃이다. 초대교회가 어려운 이웃들을 친히 돌봤던 것처럼 ‘네 이웃을 네 몸과 같이 사랑하라’는 예수님의 말씀을 실천하는 것이 현 시대의 교회가 가져야할 사명이다.”라며 소감을 밝혔다.

박윤국 시장은 “외국인이라는 이유로 의료, 문화, 복지, 고용서비스 등을 온전히 누리지 못하고 열악한 환경 속에서 생활하고 있다. 민·관이 협력하여 포천의 외국인 근로자에게 건강검진서비스를 지원할 수 있어 매우 기쁘게 생각한다.”고 말했다.

한편, 서울 강남구에 위치한 강남중앙침례교회는 지난해 코로나19로 어려운 상황 속에서도 10억 원이 넘는 교회 재정을 이웃과 미자립교회에 사용했으며, 올해에는 가지가 담장을 넘는 교회라는 슬로건 아래 ‘섬기면서 부흥하는 교회’ 사역을 전개해 나가고 있고, 이번 협약식도 그 사역의 일부로 진행되는 부분이며, 지난 2월부터는 1년 간 포천나눔의집 이주민지원센터에 매월 1천만 원 씩 총 1억 2천만 원을 후원약정해 지원하고 있다고 했다.
