올해 들어 요리연구가 이혜정, 주식농부 박영옥에 이은 세번째 강연에 참석한 인원 740명은 지난 2015년 이후 진행한 43회의 태백시민 아카데미 중 역대 최다규모이며, 문화예술회관 대공연장 만석인 786명에 가까운 수치이다.

이날, 이국종 의학박사는 “끝의 시작”이라는 주제로, 외과 의사로서 겪어 온 20여년 간의 생생한 의료현장 경험과 해외 선진사례를 소개하며, "당장 눈에 띄는 변화가 없더라도 차분한 노력들이 빛을 발하는 순간이 온다며 위기를 성장의 기회로 삼아 끊임없이 도전할 것"을 강조했다.
