[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 내년 12월까지 의정부을지대학교병원 신경과 윤병우 교수가 아시아태평양뇌졸중학회 ‘APSO’를 이끈다고 밝혔다.

아시아태평양뇌졸중학회는 미국 및 유럽과 함께 세계 3대 지역을 대표하는 학술단체 중 하나로, 국내에서 회장이 선출된 사례는 처음이라고 했다.

국내 뇌졸중분야의 권위자인 윤병우 교수는 이번 선출을 통해 2년간 국내는 물론 일본, 인도, 파키스탄, 호주, 뉴질랜드 등 31개의 회원국을 이끌며 세계적 위상을 드높일 것으로 기대된다고 했다.

윤 교수는 “대한민국의 진료 및 연구 수준은 일본, 호주와 함께 세계 정상권에 있는반면 일부 회원국은 의료 수준과 환경이 매우 열악하다”며 “임기동안 회원국 간 의료수준 편차를 줄이는 것을 중점으로 글로벌 의학 발전에 기여할 것”이라고 전했다.

윤 교수는 대한뇌졸중학회 회장, 대한신경과학회 이사장, 아시아뇌졸중자문회의 의장, 세계뇌졸중학술대회 사무총장 등 국내외 학회의 요직을 두루 거쳤고, 또 서울대병원 신경과장과 서울대 의대 신경과 주임교수, 의정부을지대병원 원장 등을 역임했으며, 현재 을지대학교 의무부총장 및 의료원장을 맡고 있다고 밝혔다.
