[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 10월 29일 의정부시는 직동근린공원 힐빙정원 내 기념식수장에서 시민 70여 명과 함께 ‘희망의 숲’ 조성을 위한 하반기 식수행사를 진행했다고 밝혔다. 

올해 첫 운영을 시작한 ‘희망의 숲’ 조성 프로젝트는 특별한 날(결혼, 승진, 출생, 취업 등)을 기념하여 시민이 직접 가족과 함께 나무를 심고 가꾸기를 체험하는 행사로, 직동근린공원 외 16개소에서 570여 명의 시민과 함께 총 344주의 나무를 식재했다고 했다. 

이날 행사는 코로나19 방역수칙 및 나무의 생육 여건을 고려하여 나무별 간격을 2.5m이상 떨어뜨리고 구덩이파기-퇴비주기-나무넣기-흙채우기-물주기의 순서로 진행했다고 했다.

코로나 시대에 사회적 거리두기를 준수하며 야외활동을 할 수 있는 공간으로서 공원의 역할이 강조되고 있는 시점에, ‘희망의 숲’조성을 통해 단순히 공원의 경관을 감상하거나 산책하는 등의 간접체험에 머물지 않고 시민이 직접 공원을 만들고 관리에 참여하는 직접체험의 기반을 마련한 것에 큰 의의가 있다고 했다.

의정부시는 연말까지 올해 식수한 수목의 생육사진을 홈페이지에 게시하여 기념식수 참여자의 지속적인 관심을 유도할 계획이며, 기념식수 참여를 희망하는 시민은 공원과로 문의 후 신청할 수 있다고 전했다.
