이날 행사는 국토대청결운동의 첫 번째 사업으로 하천정화와 생태계 보존을 위해 마련되었으며 의정부시새마을회장과 임원 30명이 참석한 가운데 오전에는 중랑천에 미꾸라지 방류, 오후에는 회룡천에 미꾸라지 방류와 EM 흙공 투척으로 진행되었고, 미꾸라지 방류는 모기 유충 제거와 수질환경 개선에, EM 흙공은 수질을 정화해주는 미생물 80여종이 들어있어 하천의 악취 제거, 수질정화 등에 효과가 있는 것으로 알려져 있다고 말했다.

최병옥 의정부시새마을회장은 “이번 하천정화를 시작으로 앞으로도 다양한 사업을 통해 의정부시의 환경정화를 위해 노력하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
