[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부] 지난 28일 환경부 원주지방환경청 이창흠 청장은 오는 5월 유관기관과 합동으로 밀렵·밀거래 특별단속을 실시한다고 밝혔다.

이번 특별점검은 지난 4월초 멸종위기 야생생물인 여우가 앞다리에 부상을 입은 채 강릉에서 발견·포획됨에 따라 동일 사고를 예방하기 위해 실시하게 되었다고 했다.

원주지방환경청은 이번 특별 단속기간 동안 지자체, 국립공원관리공단, (사)야생생물관리협회 등과 합동으로 불법엽구 수거와 밀렵·밀거래 단속을 실시하고 특히, 여우 방사지역과 멸종위기종 서식지 일원을 집중점검할 계획이라고 했다.

환경부는 2015년 신고포상금을 상향 조정해 신고자에게 최대 500만원까지 포상금 지급이 가능하며, 수거된 올무, 덫, 창애 등 불법엽구는 모두 폐기 처분할 예정이라고 했다.

원주지방환경청은 갈수록 야생동물 밀렵·밀거래 불법행위는 지능화, 전문화되고 있어 지역 주민들의 자발적인 신고가 필요한 상황으로 위법행위 발견 시 지체없이 환경신문고로 신고할 것을 요청했다고 했다.

원주지방환경청 김영 자연환경과장은 “멸종위기 야생생물 서식지 안정화를 위해 지속적인 불법엽구 수거활동과 밀렵·밀거래 근절을 위한 단속 및 홍보활동을 계속해 나가겠다.”고 말했다.
