경기학생스포츠센터는 학생 건강 증진을 위한 체험, 연수, 연구의 융·복합 플랫폼 필요성이 대두됨에 따라 스포츠의 가치를 즐기고 만들어 가는 복합공간을 구축하기 위해 폐교된 학교 건물을 리모델링하여 만든 전국 최초의 학생 맞춤형 스포츠센터이며, 학생, 직원, 학부모, 지역주민 등 누구나 부담 없이 스포츠를 즐길 수 있도록 경기도교육청과 용인시가 총 269억 원을 투입하여 22개의 다양한 체험 중심의 개방형 공간으로 센터를 조성하였다고 말했다.
