이날 봉사활동에는 제19대 이계순 회장을 비롯한 전 임원들과 지난 2월 정기총회에서 선출된 제20대 이유화 회장과 임원 등 10여 명이 참여하여, 시민평화공원의 쓰레기 줍기와 평화의 소녀상의 겨우내 묶은 먼지를 닦아 내는 봉사활동을 실시했다고 말했다.

이유화 회장은 “코로나19 확진자 수가 제4차 유행을 예고하는 시기인 만큼, 여성단체장 이·취임식을 개최하지 못했으나, 평화의 소녀상 앞에서 전·현직 임원들이 봉사활동을 함께 하는 것도 여성단체 역할을 계승하는 의미가 있다고 본다. 14개 여성단체가 매월 1회씩 순번제로 평화의 소녀상 및 시민평화공원의 청소를 하며, 동두천시 여성의 권익향상을 위해 함께 협조와 상생해 나가자”고 인사말을 전했다.
