[김준호 기자 = 동해시] 2022년 제63회 한국민속예술제 우수상 수상작, 동해 북평 민속 오일장과 북평원님답교놀이가 북평원님 마당놀이 음악극, 동해랑에 도전한다. 

마당놀이 음악극 동해랑은 2024 강원도 동계 청소년 올림픽, 1시군, 1 대표 공연지원사업으로 북평원님답교놀이의 전체 과정 중 모의재판(송사마당)을 배경으로 창작한 음악극 마당놀이다. 

동해문화원이 주관하고 동해시와 강원도가 지원하는 사업으로 제작은 연출 임오섭, 작곡 조석연, 안무 박서연, 타악 임웅수가 각각 담당했다.

지역 민속과 지역성을 배경으로한 시민 주도형 마당놀이로 등장인물은 사또와 오징어 멍게, 나카무라, 유랑극단, 마을 사람 등 배우 대부분은 북평원님답교놀이 보존회 회원과 일반시민들로 구성됐다. 

음악극 마당놀이 동해랑은 21일 오후 3시 동해문화원 대강당에서 보존회 관계자와 문화원 회원 대상 파일럿 공연, 23일 저녁 7시 동해문화예술회관 대공연장에서 시민 대상 본공연 등 총 2회 공연을 무대에 올린다. 

안전을 위해 초대권 소지자 선착순 무료입장이다. (단, 객석 여유 검토 후 미소지자도 입장 가능), 23일 2회 공연은 문화원 유튜브 채널 동해문화원 TV로 전 과정을 생중계할 계획이다.

북평원님답교놀이는 모의재판과 답교놀이를 줄거리로 구성된 민속극으로, 조선 정조 20년(1796)부터 북평장을 중심으로 연희 된 것으로 진주지 등에 기록돼있다. 

역사 문화적 침탈을 일삼았던 암울한 일제강점기에도 맥을 이어온 영동 남부 지역민의 강인한 정신과 지역의 정체성이 살아 숨 쉬는 현존하는 흔치 않은 민속극이다.

Bukpyeong Wonnim’s Dakkyo Nori is a folk play composed of a mock trial and a dakgyo play as a storyline.

It is a rare folk play in which the strong spirit of the people of the southern part of Yeongdong and the identity of the region are alive and breathing even during the gloomy Japanese colonial period, when historical and cultural invasions were common.
