[서종협 기자 = 태백시] (사)한국진폐재해자협회(회장 김경수)는 지난 27일 태백시 문화예술회관에서 이상호 태백시장, 고채창 태백시의장, 도·시의원, 김경수 협회장, 회원 등 250여 명이 참석한 가운데 ‘제18회 정기총회’를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

정기총회는 진폐환자를 위한 진폐상담 교육, 개회선언 및 국민의례, 결의문 낭독, 유공회원 감사패와 표창 수여, 영상물 시청, 축사 등으로 진행됐다.

이상호 태백시장은 “제18기 한국진폐재해자협회 정기총회가 열리게 된 것을 매우 뜻 깊게 생각하며 진심으로 축하드린다”며 “진폐재해자권익과 복지 증진에 힘써 주시며 오늘 행사 준비에 수고해 주신 김경수 회장과 관계자들께 감사드린다”고 말했다.

이어 “진폐재해자들의 희생과 헌신으로 오늘날 대한민국 경제성장의 큰 밑거름을 마련했지만 수십년 간 석탄먼지와 사투하며 진폐라는 직업병을 안고 고통을 받고 계신 여러분들이 합당한 예우를 받을 수 있도록 권익 증진과 복지 향상에 최선을 다하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

김경수 한국진폐재해자협회장은 “우리나라의 눈부신 경제발전을 이룩해 보다 풍요로운 삶을 영위할 수 있는 것은 우리나라 산업화와 여러분들의 묵묵히 흘린 땀방울이 있었기에 가능했다”며 “태백지역도 산업화의 성지로 국가주관 행사로 승격시키고 이에 따른 산업전사 희생자는 국가차원에 산업유공자로 인정받고 조성되어 관리되어야 한다”고 말했다.

또한 “국가 경제발전을 위해 노력하시다 진폐재해 고통을 안고 살아가시는 여러분들께 산업전사의 명예회복 보다 많은 사회적 관심과 정부 차원의 현실적인 지원이 이루어지길 기대한다”고 말했다.
