[김준호 기자 = 영월군] 영월군은 덕포리 서로가아파트 앞 회전교차로 설치사업을 위하여 3억원을 투입하여 경찰서와 도로교통공단 등 관계기관 협의를 거쳐 올해 6월 착공하여 9월 중순 회전교차로 설치사업을 준공했다.

회전교차로는 중앙에 설치된 교통섬을 중심으로 통행하는 회전 방식으로 기존 신호등 신호통행 방식보다 지체도가 짧아지는 효과가 있으며, 교차로 진입시 차량의 저속운행유도로 대형사고 발생 확률을 낮추는 개선효과가 있다.

특히, 중앙교통섬에는 야간에도 안전하게 운행할 수 있도록 LED 시선유도유도등을 설치하여 운전자의 시인성 증대 및 도시미관을 최대한 살렸다.

김재구 안전건설과장은 ‘3개월의 공사기간 동안 불편함을 감수해주신 주민분들게 감사드리며, 원활한 차량 소통과 안전사고예방 등 시가지 교통환경 개선에 크게 기여할 것으로 기대한다’고 말했다.

한편, 군에서는 추가사업으로 관내 기 설치된 회전교차로를 이용하는 주민들의 안전한 보행환경 조성을 위해 「회전교차로 내 횡단보도 투광기 설치사업」을 올해 중 완료할 계획이다.
