[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 오는 8월 27일 원주지방환경청은 고성군 광포호에서 인흥초교 학생 30명과 함께 ‘석호 살리기 캠페인’을 시작한다고 밝혔다.

올해 캠페인은 8월~10월까지 20회에 걸쳐 한국도로공사 등 12개 기관, 총 362명이 참여하며 생태계교란종 제거, 환경정화활동, 생태탐방 등을 할 예정이라고 했다.

아울러, 자연환경해설사로부터 동해안 석호의 중요성과 생태적 가치를 듣는 시간을 갖고 지역주민의 관심과 참여를 유도할 계획이라고 전했다.

석호는 파도나 해류의 작용으로 생기는 사주(砂洲), 사취(砂嘴)에 의해 입구가 막혀서 생성된 자연호수로 담수․해수가 혼재하여 희소가치가 큰 호소이며, 동해안에는 화진포호, 경포호 등 18개의 석호가 있다고 했다.

원주지방환경청 이창흠 청장은 “이번 캠페인으로 지형적․생태적인 가치가 큰 석호를 지역주민에게 알리고, 석호 보전을 위한 노력을 계속할 것”이라며, “앞으로도 석호를 보전하기 위해 다양한 프로그램을 추진하겠다.”라고 밝혔다.
