[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부] 4월부터 11월까지 원주지방환경청 청장 이창흠은 강원·충북 지역의 유해화학물질 취급시설을 갖춘 사업장 50개소를 대상으로 한국환경공단 수도권동부지역본부와 함께 취급시설 관리에 대한 기술지원을 실시한다고 밝혔다.

취급시설 안전관리 미흡으로 인한 화학사고가 끊임없이 발생하고 있으므로, 기술지원을 통해 전문지식과 노하우를 전수하고 사업장 안전관리 역량 강화 및 화학사고 예방에 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다고 했다.

이번 기술지원은 특히 중·소규모 사업장으로서 시설관리에 어려움을 겪고 있는 사업장이나 사고대비물질 등 유해화학물질 취급량이 많아 화학사고 발생 우려가 큰 사업장을 대상으로 실시한다고 했다.

한국환경공단은 전문성을 살려 취급시설별 특성에 맞는 관리요령 등의 노하우를 전수하고, 원주지방환경청은 개정된 화학물질관리법을 바탕으로 화학물질 취급 주의사항 등을 안내하고자 한다고 전했다.

아울러, 현장 기술지원을 받기 어려운 사업장을 위해 2회에 걸쳐 화학물질관리법 주요내용 및 취급시설 운영 주의사항, 화학사고 발생 시 초동 대처요령 등의 내용을 담아 비대면 설명회를 실시할 예정이라고 했다.

비대면 설명회 자료(동영상)는 8월~10월 중 원주지방환경청 홈페이지, 페이스북, 유튜브 등을 활용하여 배포될 예정이라고 전했다.

이창흠 원주지방환경청장은 “화학사고를 예방하는 가장 효과적인 방법은 사업장 스스로가 취급시설을 안전하게 관리할 수 있는 역량을 갖추는 것이므로 많은 관심과 실천을 부탁드린다”고 말했다.
