이번 과태료 상향은 어린이 교통안전 강화를 위해 지난해 11월 개정된 도로교통법 시행령에 따른 것으로 어린이보호구역 내 주정차위반 과태료를 승용차는 8만 원에서 12만 원으로, 승합차는 9만 원에서 13만 원으로 일반지역보다 3배 상향 부과하는 것이라고 말했다.

 
시는 어린이보호구역 내 불법주정차 행위 근절을 위해 어린이보호구역 24개소에 총 44대의 CCTV를 설치 운영 중에 있으며, 향후 미설치된 초등학교를 중심으로 설치를 확대할 예정이고, 또한 어린이보호구역 내 불법주정차 주민신고제를 지속적으로 추진하여 어린이 교통사고 예방에 만전을 기할 방침이라고 했다.
