[서종협 기자 = 태백시] 태백시(시장 이상호)는 22일 근로복지공단 태백병원과 ‘보호자 없는 병실’ 업무 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

보호자 없는 병실은 직장과 일상생활, 경제적 여건 등으로 간병이 여의치 않은 입원환자에게 간병인을 지원해 주는 제도로 저소득층의 간병비 부담을 덜어주기 위해 마련됐다.

지원대상은 지정병원 담당의사가 공동간병이 필요하다고 인정한 주민등록상 태백시민 중 「의료급여법」제3조에 의한 의료수급권자, 노숙인, 의료보장제도 혜택이 없는 외국인 근로자, 「국민기초생활보장법」에 따른 차상위계층 환자 등 기타 무료간병이 필요하다고 인정된 자에게 혜택이 주어진다.

이번 사업은 간병인이 확보되는 대로 추진해나갈 예정으로, 이상호 태백시장은 “이번 업무 협약 체결로 저소득층 환자와 보호자의 간병비 부담을 해소하고, 지역사회 일자리 창출을 할 수 있는 일거양득의 사업”이라며, “많은 대상자들이 혜택을 볼 수 있도록 노력하겠다”라고 말했다.
