[서종협 기자 = 태백시] 이상호 태백시장은 13일 우호교류도시인 울산 남구 초청으로 신옥화 행정지원국장, 이정우 기획예산담당관, 관계자 등 10명과 함께 2022 울산고래축제장을 방문했다고 밝혔다.

특히, 방문 기간 중 재울산강원도민회와 재울산태백시민회 관계자와 별도의 간담회를 갖고 고향사랑기부제 참여 및 지역축제 협조를 요청과 지난 8월 안산에서 ‘탄광유산에 꽃을 피우다’라는 주제로 개최된 검은황금 사진 전시회도 연내 울산에서 개최하기로 협의했다.

시는 울산 남구(구청장 서동욱)와 지난 2013년 7월에 우호교류도시 협정을 맺은 이후 지역축제 등의 행사 시 상호 교류 방문해왔으나, 코로나19로 인해 지난 2020년 1월 태백산 눈축제를 마지막으로 교류가 중단되었으며, 이번 울산 남구에서 개최되는 울산고래축제를 계기로 상호 교류 활동을 재개하게 됐다.

이상호 태백시장은 “2022 울산 고래축제 성공 기원과, 이번 방문을 계기로 축제·공연·문화교류·민간단체 교류 등 다양한 분야로 확대해,  두 도시가 공동 성장 발전할 수 있기를 기대한다”고 말했다.

이를 위해 2023년 태백산 눈축제를 시작으로 국내·외 교류도시의 적극적인 참여를 유도해 지역경제에 활력을 불어넣고 민선 8기 중점과제인 사계절 축제의 도시를 완성할 계획이다.
