앞서 김상회 수원시장 예비후보는 “이번 수원시장 선거는 문재인vs윤석열의 대리전이 될 것”이라며 문재인 대통령을 보좌했던 자신이 국민의힘에 맞서 가장 경쟁력 있는 후보임을 강조한 바 있다.

김상회 수원시장 예비후보는 “더불어민주당 후보로 본선에 진출해야 꿈꾸는 수원특례시를 완성할 수 있다”며 다시 출발점에 서서 결승을 향해 열심히 뛸 것이라고 의지를 다졌다고 전했다. 

김상회 예비후보는 국민의힘당과 수원시장 선거에서 겨룰 때 ‘가장 경쟁력 있는 후보는 청와대 행정관으로 있으면서 문재인대통령의 자치발전 국정철학을 배우고 익힌 김상회 자신’이라며 다섯 명의 예비후보들끼리 공정하게 경쟁하자고 말했다.

김상회 예비후보는 문재인 대통령을 보필해 ‘청와대 대통령비서실 자치발전비서관실 행정관’을 역임했으며 현재 대한민국특례시시장협의회 특별보좌관, 수원특례시발전연구소 소장을 맡고 있다고 전했다. 

안룡초등학교, 수원중학교, 수원공업고등학교 건축과, 서울신학대 신학과를 졸업했으며, 경기대 일반대학원 행정학 박사과정을 수료했다.

한국민예총 수원지부장, 원천천물사랑시민모임 대표, 경기국제인형극제 집행위원장·총감독, 녹색자치경기연대 상임대표 등 거쳐 2010년 경기도의회 의원, 더불어민주당 경기도당 정책실장, 제19대 대선 경기도국민주권선대위 전략기획실장, 제20대 대선 더불어민주당 경기도당 선대위 선거대책본부 공동부본부장 등을 역임했다고 밝혔다.
