한편, 김상회 수원시장 예비후보는 문재인 대통령을 보필해 ‘청와대 대통령비서실 자치발전비서관실 행정관’을 역임한 지방자치 전문가이며, 현재 대한민국특례시시장협의회 특별보좌관, 수원특례시발전연구소 소장으로 활동하고 있다고 했다. 

한국민예총 수원지부장, 원천천물사랑시민모임 대표, 경기국제인형극제 집행위원장·총감독, 녹색자치경기연대 상임대표 등 거쳐 2010년 경기도의회 의원, 더불어민주당 경기도당 정책실장, 제19대 대선 경기도국민주권선대위 전략기획실장, 제20대 대선 더불어민주당 경기도당 선대위 선거대책본부 공동부본부장 등을 역임했다고 전했다.
