[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동두천시는 오존 취약시기인 8월 한달간 오존 발생 원인물질을 줄이기 위해 휘발성유기화합물(VOCs) 배출시설 지도·점검을 실시한다고 밝혔다.

휘발성유기화합물질(VOCs)은 대기 중에 휘발되어 오존을 발생시키는 탄화수소화합물을 말하며, 피부접촉이나 호흡기 흡입을 통해 신경계에 장애를 일으키는 발암물질로 인체에 유해한 영향을 끼치는 물질이라고 했다.

이번 점검은 기온이 높고 일사량이 많은 여름철 휘발성유기화합물(VOCs)과 질소산화물(NOx)의 광화학반응으로 생성되는 오존의 발생을 저감시키기 위해 실시하며 점검 대상은 주유소, 세탁소 등 총 24개소라고 했다. 

주요 점검사항으로는 주유소 휘발유저장탱크 및 자동차 주유기의 유증기 회수시설 부착 및 설치 여부, 배출시설 인·허가 사항 준수 여부 등을 확인하고, 또한, 주유소에서 발생하는 휘발성유기화합물 배출을 줄이기 위한 유증기 회수설비 설치 지원 사업 참여 안내도 병행할 예정이라고 전했다. 

동두천시 관계자는 “대기오염물질 배출 사업장에 대한 철저한 지도점검을 통해 시민들의 건강을 챙기겠다”고 밝혔다.
