[장선희 기자 = 경기북부] 지난 5월 11일 의정부시 의정부2동 지역사회보장협의체는 노숙인 밀집구역인 의정부역 동부광장에서 환경정비를 실시하고 복지사각지대 발굴 홍보를 진행했다고 밝혔다. 

의정부역 동부광장은 하루 평균 10여 명의 노숙인이 생활하면서 버린 술병, 담배꽁초, 음식물 등 각종 쓰레기와 오물로 악취까지 더해 지역주민의 민원이 계속되는 곳이라고 말했다. 

의정부2동은 신협 및 각종 봉사단체와 협업하여 쓰레기와 오물을 치우고 물차를 동원해 공터 바닥과 기둥 등을 세척했고, 또한 환경정비가 끝나고 복지사각지대 발굴 홍보 전단지를 시민들에게 전달하며 복지사각지대에 놓인 이웃에게 적극적인 관심을 갖고 도움이 필요한 이웃을 발견할 경우 동 주민센터로 알려줄 것을 당부했다고 했다.

김성남 의정부2동 지역사회보장협의체 민간위원장은 “이번 환경정비로 주민들이 지역의 깨끗한 환경 조성을 위해 자발적으로 참여할 수 있는 계기가 되길 바라며, 지역의 어려운 이웃이 복지혜택을 몰라서 도움받지 못하는 일이 없도록 복지사각지대 발굴에 힘쓰겠다.”라고 밝혔다.
