[김택곤 기자=영월군] 영월군의 오랜 숙원사업인 태백선 건널목 확장을 완료했다.

덕포사거리에 설치된 철도건널목은 영월읍 영흥리와 덕포리를 잇는 주요 도로로 건널목 내 인도가 설치되지 않아 안전사고위험에 노출된 상태로 건널목을 이용해 왔으며, 인도를 이용하기 위해서는 건널목과 먼 거리에 설치된 지하도로 우회 통행하는 큰 불편을 겪었다.

이런 불편을 해소해 달라는 지역주민의 민원이 수년 전부터 꾸준히 제기되어 왔으나 국가철도공단과의 협의 난항으로 건널목 인도 확장사업이 지지부진했으나,

각고의 노력 끝에 영월군은 한국철도공사와 합동작업을 추진하여 지난 12월 9일 덕포사거리 앞 철도건널목 인도확장사업을 완료했다.
