[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 작년 5월부터 의정부시는 의정부문화원과 함께 시민이 직접 제보하고 기록하는 의정부형 아카이브 시스템 구축을 위해 시민마을기록자 육성교육 등 다양한 사업을 추진하고 있다고 밝혔다.

 

의정부시는 1950년 6·25전쟁 이후 8개의 미군부대가 의정부시에 배치됨으로써 시 인구가 급증함과 동시에 당시 국가 안보의 보루로서의 역할을 수행해 근현대사의 역사적 강점을 가지고 있다고 했다.

 

하지만 2010년부터 시작된 미군부대 철수 및 의정부시 도시계획에 따라 급속도로 근현대사의 도시역사문화자료 소실이 가속화되는 상황에서 의정부시 역사와 생활문화를 알릴 수 있는 다양한 콘텐츠를 개발하기 위해 전문가와 의정부 시민마을기록자의 협업 연구를 시작했다고 했다.

 

20명의 의정부 시민마을기록자들은 지역에서 오랜 기간 거주하면서 자연스럽게 습득한 마을 기초 지식과 인적 인프라를 가지고 지역에 대한 기초지식을 활용해 다양한 활동을 진행했다고 전했다.

 

시민마을기록자들은 의정부의 현재의 모습과 인터뷰를 통해 의정부 시민들이 기억하고 있는 의정부시의 옛 모습에 대해 기록했고, 조사 주제 중 하나로 시민들의 주변에 오래 남아 있는 노포 약 60건을 조사했으며, 부대찌개, 국수, 냉면, 고기집 등 다양한 음식점부터 슈퍼, 철물점, 세탁소, 정비소 등 의정부 곳곳에 있는 노포들을 대상으로 했고 이미 없어진 곳도 있었다고 했다.

의정부시는 꾸준히 개발하고 성장하고 있으며, 발전과정에서 옛 모습이 사라지는 것은 불가피한 실정이므로, 이러한 과정에서 재개발이 진행되고 있는 곳을 중심으로 마을의 과거와 현재 모습을 기록하고 조사·발굴하는 사업을 진행하고 있다고 전했다.

 

2021년에는 재개발이 한창 진행 중인 신곡1동을 조사 지역으로 선정해 전문연구진이 문헌 조사 및 구술 조사를 진행했으며, 신곡1동은 의정부시의 발전과정에서 다양한 기능과 역할을 수행했고, 사람들이 함께 생활하고 교류하면서 변화한 다양한 생활문화를 역사적 맥락과 주민들의 이야기로 나누어 기록했다고 했다.

 

찾아가는 아카이브 구축 사업의 일환으로 의정부 시민마을기록자들이 집으로 직접 방문해 집 안에 있는 앨범 속에 남아있는 의정부의 모습을 발굴했다고 전했다.
