[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 11월 26일 포천시는 겨울철 야생동물 출현빈도가 높은 영중면 성동리, 일동면 수입리 일대에서 야생동물 밀렵 단속 및 불법 엽구 수거활동을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

이번 활동에는 야생생물관리협회 포천시지회와 포천시 야생동식물 보호봉사단 등 40여 명이 참여해 올무, 창애 등 불법엽구 50여 점을 수거했으며, 수거한 엽구는 전량 폐기처분 했다고 전했다.

포천시는 최근 밀렵행위 증가로 야생동물을 포획하기 위한 불법 엽구가 많은 것으로 파악했고, 야생동물로부터 농작물 등의 피해를 예방하고자 농민들이 불법 엽구를 설치하는 경우도 있어 불법 엽구 수거 및 순찰 활동과 불법 엽구 설치 자제를 위한 홍보에 적극 나설 계획이라고 했다.

포천시 관계자는 “야생동물 보호를 위해서는 시민들의 자발적인 제보와 참여가 필요하다. 야생생물 보호와 밀렵·밀거래 근절에 동참해 주시길 부탁드린다.”라고 전했다.

한편, 야생생물 밀렵 밀거래 행위가 적발되면 ‘야생생물 보호 및 관리에 관한 법률’ 제67조에 따라 5년 이하의 징역 또는 5백만원이상 5천만원 이하의 벌금에 처해지며, 또한 야생동물을 먹거나 취득, 운반, 보관, 알선을 한 경우에도 1년 이하의 징역이나 1천만원 이하의 벌금형에 처해질 수 있다고 밝혔다.
