대상은 희귀질환 1,110종 가운데 산정특례 등록자로 기준 중위소득 환자가구 120% 이하, 부양의무자가구 200% 이하이고 별도의 재산 기준을 충족해야 하며, 특히 환자가 신청한 날부터 의료비 지원이 개시되는 만큼, 의료기관에서 희귀질환 진단을 받으면 바로 보건소에 문의 후 신청해야 한다고 전했다.

요양급여 비용 중 본인부담금 10% 전액을 비롯해 간병비, 특수식이 구입비, 보조기기 구입비 등을 질병과 환자 상태에 따라 지원한다고 했다.

이미나 원주시 보건소장은 “진단과 동시에 빠르게 의료비를 지원해 경제적 부담 완화로 마음의 부담까지 덜어낼 수 있기를 바란다.”라고 말했다.
