[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 8월 17일 동두천 공공미술 프로젝트 전시 '동두천의 꿈展'이 개막했다고 밝혔다. 

이번 전시는 10명의 지역 작가가 참여해 9개의 작품을 선보이는 자리로, 시 청사에서 오는 8월 27일까지 진행되고, 특히 이날 개막식은 코로나19 방역수칙을 철저히 준수하며 진행됐으며 참여 작가들의 작품 설명을 통해 뜨거운 창작열을 느낄 수 있었다고 했다. 

‘동두천의 꿈’이라는 공통 주제로 만들어진 작품들은 장르와 형식이 다양하다. 4m가 넘는 대형 한국화 '소요제색도' 이태근 작가는 소요산 의상대에서 칼바위를 넘어 시를 바라보는 시선이 흥미로운 작품으로 현대사의 역경을 견뎌온 동두천 시민들의 기상을 표현했고, '동두천에는 두 개의 달이 뜬다' 김도영, 배경자 작가는 한국문화와 미국문화의 공존을 표현하는 도자기 설치작품이라고 했다. 

걸산마을 주민 인터뷰를 통해 만든 금속 설치작품 '사람들'은 공공미술의 성격을 잘 보여주며, 이밖에도 다문화 학생들과 공동으로 작업한 커뮤니티 작품 '자유와 평화를 품다'를 비롯해, 동두천 시민만이 느낄 수 있는 섬세한 감수성을 포착해 낸 조소작품 '괜찮아'등 평면, 설치, 영상 형태로 9개 작품이 시민에 공개됐다고 했다.

최용덕 동두천시장은 “공공미술 프로젝트를 통해 문화와 예술이 시 발전에 얼마나 중요한 동력인지 다시 한 번 깨달았다”면서, “지속적인 문화예술 발전을 위해 힘쓸테니 지역 작가들이 함께해 주길 당부한다”고 말했다. 

이번 전시는 오는 8월 27일까지 시청 1층 로비와 복도에 전시한 후 사전 계획된 공공장소에 설치할 예정이라고 했다.
