[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 11일 양주시는 ‘도시재생 활성화 및 지원에 관한 특별법’에 따라 남면 신산리 도시재생활성화 계획을 고시하고 사업 추진에 박차를 가한다고 밝혔다.

앞서 양주시는 지난해 11월 공청회를 열고 주민의견을 청취하고 양주시의회의 의견을 수렴했으며 지난 3월 2022년 제2회 경기도 도시재생위원회 심의에서 남면 신산리 도시재생활성화계획을 승인받았다고 전했다.

이번 도시재생활성화사업은 오는 2025년까지 4년간 남면 신산리 일원 16만 7천여㎡ 부지에 자체 재원을 활용, 마중물 사업비 40억원, 부처연계 사업비 88억 8천3백만원, 지자체 사업비 5억 8천만원을 투입해 시행하는 양주형 도시재생사업이라고 했다.

양주시는 ‘꽃피는 신산, 다시 봄 신산리 개나리마을’을 비전으로 정하고 군부대 등 지역자원 유입을 위한 콘텐츠 개발, ‘개나리’를 모티브로 한 거리조성, 마을 환경정비 등 지역상권 활성화와 정주 환경개선을 위한 생활밀착형 도시재생사업을 추진한다고 전했다.

이번 사업의 핵심으로 꼽히는 마중물 사업에는 스마트 안심마을 조성, 보행환경 개선사업, 마을경관 개선사업, 상인지원·활성화 특화거리 조성, 교통 편의시설 확충, 마을 커뮤니티 활성화, 현장지원센터 조직·운영 등 총 7개 사업이 추진 예정이라고 했다.

부처연계 사업으로 신산시장 복합센터 건립, 특수상황지역 특성화사업, 시장경영패키지 지원사업과 지자체 사업인 경기 행복마을관리소, 마을 상징물 디자인 가이드라인 개발·시범설치 등이 추가로 추진되면서 도시재생에 대한 주민체감도가 대폭 향상될 것으로 예상된다고 했다.

양주시 관계자는 “이번 도시재생 활성화 사업이 완료되면 지역주민 역량강화를 위한 기반 마련은 물론 위축된 지역상권 활성화와 안전한 정주환경 개선까지 연쇄적 파급효과가 발생할 것”이라며 “지역이 지닌 강점을 잘 활용해 마을공동체가 활력을 되찾을 수 있도록 사업을 차질없이 추진하겠다”고 말했다.
