[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 오는 12월 15일부터 의정부시는 출퇴근 시간대 이용수요가 집중되는 신곡동·민락동 지역의 광역교통 불편 해소를 위해 운영 중인 경기도 공공버스 G6000번, G6100번 노선버스에 각 1대씩 친환경 2층 전기버스를 추가 도입해 운행을 시작한다고 밝혔다.

2층 전기버스의 승객 좌석은 1층 11석, 2층 59석 총 70석으로 기존 1층 버스 44석 좌석보다 대폭 증가 되어 많은 승객들이 이용 가능해졌으며, 또한 저상버스로 제작되어 교통약자들을 위해서도 이용 편의를 높였고, 특히 G6000번은 2층버스 도입과 동시에 8대에서 10대로 2대 증차하여 배차 간격 10분~25분으로 단축됐고, 2층 버스 첫차 출발은 G6000번 7시 10분, G6100번 6시 50분으로 출퇴근 시간대 만석으로 탑승이 불가했던 시민들의 불편이 상당 부분 해소될 것으로 보인다고 했다.

한편, 의정부시는 이번 경기도 공공버스 2층 전기버스 도입에 이어 내년에는 시내버스에 30대 이상의 전기버스를 확대 보급해 친환경 대중교통 인프라 구축 및 지원에 힘쓸 예정이라고 전했다.
