육군병장 김금동 공적으로는 ‘단기 4290년 3월 23일(1957.03.23.)부터 47일에 걸쳐 8리에 달하는 도로 확장공사에서 불철주야 탁월한 공병 특유의 기능을 아낌없이 발휘하고 임무에 성심성의를 다하여 단 시일 내에 준공을 하게 되어 그 공로가 지대하였음. 이는 평소부터 연마된 투철한 군인정신과 왕성한 책임관념의 소치로서 타 사병의 모범이 되므로 불멸의 공적을 가리기 위하여 비를 건립하여 영원히 기념함.’이라고 전해지고 있다고 했다.

한편, 기존 동교동 542-32번지에 있었던 육군병장 김금동 공적비는 보존 및 유지 관리를 위해 지난 2019년 회암고개, 투바위고개 정상으로 이전됐다고 했다.
