[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 지난 17일 양주시는 시청 상황실에서 제1기 아동참여위원회 발대식을 열고 공식활동의 첫 시작을 알렸다고 밝혔다.

아동참여위원회는 18세 미만 아동들이 스스로 아동 권리에 대해 이해하고 아동 관련 사회문제에 직접 목소리를 내는 등 아동정책의 주체적 참여자로 활동하는 아동자치기구라고 했다.

이날 발대식에는 코로나19 확산 방지를 위해 조학수 부시장을 비롯한 성열원 복지문화국장, 아동참여위원, 관계 공무원 등 최소한의 인원만이 참석했다고 전했다.

발대식은 신규 위원 위촉장 수여를 시작으로 활동다짐문 선서, 2021년 추진계획 논의 순으로 진행했으며 나유정 아동위원이 대표로 나서 위원회에 참여하게 된 계기와 앞으로의 포부 등을 밝히는 시간을 가졌다고 했다.

제1기 아동참여위원은 공개모집과 기관 추천을 통해 초등학생 10명, 중학생 8명, 고등학생 2명 등 총 20명으로 구성됐고, 이들은 앞으로 2년간 분기별 정기회의 등을 통해 아동의 눈높이에서 양주시의 아동 관련 시책에 대한 의견 제시, 아동친화도시 조성을 위한 다양한 아이디어 발굴 등 아동과 양주시를 잇는 소통창구 역할을 수행하게 된다고 했다.

조학수 부시장은 “아동친화의 중심인 아동이 자신의 목소리를 자유롭게 낼 수 있는 장을 마련하고 사회 문제에 대한 참여 경험을 쌓아 주도적인 존재로 성장할 수 있는 환경 조성에 힘을 쏟겠다”며 “위원회에서 제기한 의견을 면밀하게 검토해 아동시책 추진 시 반영될 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

한편 양주시는 유엔아동권리협약을 바탕으로 아동과 함께 성장하는 행복한 아동친화도시로 도약하기 위해 ‘아동친화도시위원회’를 구성·운영 중이며 아동보호 대응체계 강화를 위해 지역유관기관 실무진이 참여하는 ‘아동학대 대응 정보연계협의체’를 발족하는 등 아동보호체계의 공공성 강화에 총력을 기울이고 있다고 전했다.
